1. BASIC PATCHWORK & QUILTING |
Exercises in various methods of hand piecing
and quilting. Students should finish the day with a cushion panel
ready to make up.

2. ROUND THE BEND |
Split
the Drunkard's Path and make it larger to create a curvaceous quilt or
hanging. Or make squares using the Curved Two-Patch Method and create floral
designs
|
|
3. ROCKY ROADS |
Forget traffic jams! Get stuck in to this seemingly simple three-piece
block. Use a design sheet and think about colour values. Interweaving,
intriguing patterns appear. Learn to use long triangles.

|
4. ISLE OF MAN LOG CABIN |
Learn a very old technique. Similar to Log
Cabin except it is pleated. and measurements used are hand spans and
fingers. Instead of traditional old blankets or curtains, use flannel fabric
or cottons, or recycled scraps.
|
|
5. OH CHRISTMAS TREE |
These trees will not drop their needles. Several techniques taught to
make quilts and hangings for Christmas: e.g. Thousand pyramids, pieced
trees, folded trees, 2D trees. (Example small hanging shown.) |
|
6. QUIET QUILTING |
Three techniques to try here: Design, mark and
hand quilt a small whole cloth quilt (makes a superb baby quilt, OR a
smaller version makes an elegant cushion for a wedding, for example) Or try
the traditional French Boutis quilting (which is stuffed), or a small piece
of Kantha quilting (from the Far East).

7. AN ANGELIC DAY |
Appliqué
Angels, quirky angels, stuffed angels, flying angels, 3-D angels ,or an
Angel block for a quilt or a card. These are everyday angels, BUT for those
who are organised and with 6 months until Christmas, some students will need
present ideas already …

8. HOLY FOLDS |
Cathedral Window techniques puzzle everyone.
Learn an easy method, or stretch to the long window: Cathedral Spire.
Scalloped Hexagons complete the skills on offer.
|
|
9. LANDSCAPES |
Use large curved pieces or strip piecing.to
design a landscape, real or a fantasy. Appliqué, embroider or embellishments
for the details.
|
|
10. A HOUSING ESTATE |
Using photographs or drawings, design a view
and learn how to piece the design.
|
|
11. SLICE UP A CIRCLE |
No, not a Pizza-making workshop! Design a circular block by drawing
lines on a "slice of Pizza". With the help of mirrors, unique creations
appear. Several methods are suggested to make up the block, which could end
up as a hanging, a cushion or the middle of a large quilt (example quilt
shown). |

12. A SHAKER DAY |
A peaceful day using basic techniques to make projects with a Shaker
influence. Learn about the simplicity of the Shaker life and their beautiful
craftwork. Use plaids and checks to make a cushion block, a quilt, teddy
bear, heart garland. Use a simple design to learn Shadow Appliqué. Some
recipes included, as well!

13. AN AMISH DAY |
Learn some fascinating facts about the Amish, including their use of
glowing colours in quilts. Make a panel or wall quilt using traditional
Amish piecing and quilting patterns. |
|
14. SLASH AND CREATE |
This is NOT an anger management workshop, but a chance to extend the
boundaries of design. Begin with a pile of fabric squares, a rotary cutter
and a sewing machine; end up with a one off quilt. Three different
techniques taught.

15. QUILTING ALLSORTS |
A day to try out different quilting techniques:
Shadow Quilting, Boutis Quilting (an ancient French skill, in which every
inch of the design is quilted and stuffed), and Candlewick Embroidery with
quilting.
|
|
16. "WHAT CAN I DO WITH THIS
FABRIC?!" |
Have you ever bought or been given a piece of
fabric, and months later you cannot think WHY? This workshop will help you
use the fabric to make a quilt or hanging. It will also teach you how to
design a quilt, and about “Conversation Quilts” for children, using all
those cartoon and picture pieces.

17. BOOKMAKERS |
This is a day to spend learning many different
techniques including: Slashing, quick machine appliqué, foiling, Angelina
fibres, embellishments, (ribbons, beads, buttons, embroidery, Red Work), and
making a fabric book in which these can be displayed. Students who have
already attended a “Bitz and Glitz” workshop could bring those samples along
and start constructing a book. OR bring along some photos, memories and make
a fabric “Memory Book” to mark a special occasion.

18. BEARS & SQUARES |
A workshop with a mixture of Appliqué and
piecing. Use the Teddy Bear pattern as the centre of the quilt and build the
rest up with small or large blocks in squares and triangles This could be a
cot quilt, or even a small bed quilt!
|
|
19. SEEKING CLOSURE! |
A day to learn about the finishings of piece of
work. Ideas for sashings, borders, and bindings; make some labels with
threads or Pigma Pens; also how to make various kinds of cushions, with or
without ruffles, zips and buttons. Bring projects along to finish.
|
|
20. QUILT IN A DAY |
Here
is a BIG challenge!! OK so it is a “Quilt Top in a Day”, ready to quilt. It
needs quite a bit of discipline to follow instructions, and prepare a little
in advance. At the end of the afternoon we should see a room full of quilt
tops, which will fit the top of a single bed. Prompt start; bobbins full,
spare needles at the ready, sharp scissors, Rotary cutters …

21. RECYCLED BAG LADIES |
No, not a makeover for tired ladies! Make a bag
with a difference: Save up pieces of old jeans, skirts, felted jumpers or
even unused patchwork blocks. Combine them with threads, buttons or beads to
make a unique handbag. (Or to put in the Christmas Present box ..!!)

22. SHAGGY BAG |
(All
abilities) A very different workshop. Make your own chenille fabric with
machine stitching, slashing and brushing. Use the piece to make up into a
small bag – either for sewing items, or a larger hand bag. Patterns for
these provided.
|
|
23. STAINED GLASS PATCHWORK |
Use bright colours and dark bias binding to
create a stunning hanging. Best done by hand. Patterns offered range from
very simple to more complicated, and one or two with a Christmas theme.
|
|
24. SCRAP HAPPY |
Come along and see how you can use up your
scraps and strips. Bring along a pile of scraps or two and a half inch wide
strips. Go home with a new quilt top – or several blocks to develop later.
Or use Christmas Scraps. Start saving scraps now! For those who did not
attend the first workshop, some of the patterns used will be available. Or
perhaps you have not had time to try out those ideas – come and get on with
them here!
